Whether a product gets found on Amazon depends first on whether its title, bullets and backend search terms contain the words shoppers actually type. Amazon’s Brand Analytics is only available to brand-registered sellers and does not show absolute volumes, so most sellers rely on third-party estimates.
1. Where Volume Data Comes From
- Amazon does not publish absolute search volumes for keywords.
- Third-party tools model monthly volume from clickstream samples, product ranking changes and similar data.
- Use it to compare keywords against each other, not as an exact count.
2. Real Example: "yoga mat"
On 9 October 2026 we checked "yoga mat" (United States) with the Amazon keyword tool: about 76,183 searches a month. Related search terms:
| Related term | Est. monthly searches |
|---|---|
| yoga | 183,970 |
| pilates | 102,289 |
| yoga mat | 76,183 |
| yoga pants | 44,319 |
| exercise mat | 13,651 |
- "yoga" and "pilates" are bigger but far too broad: someone searching "yoga" may want pants, blocks or books. Putting them in the title dilutes relevance.
- "exercise mat" is an easy-to-miss synonym with about 13,000 monthly searches, a good fit for bullets or search terms.
- If your mat also suits pilates, check combinations like "pilates mat" separately; they may be a less competitive way in.
3. Where Each Keyword Goes
| Placement | What goes there | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Title | The main keyword plus the 1–2 most important attributes (material, thickness, size) | Readability first; no stuffing |
| Bullets | Synonyms and use cases (exercise mat, pilates) | Open each bullet by answering a buyer concern |
| Backend search terms | Synonyms and spelling variants not covered elsewhere | 249-byte limit; no repeats, no competitor brands |
